Child Welfare

In the area of Child Welfare the following programmes were taken up by Social Welfare Department:

a) Grant-in-aid to Destitute Children Homes

        The Department has been extending grant-in-aid to 8 (eight) Destitute Children Homes run by eminent NGOs for care protection and maintenance of the destitute, orphan and neglected children. Altogether 321 destitute/orphan/neglected children have been provided care and protection in these Homes.

b) Financial assistance to Dependent Children

        Financial assistance @ Rs. 60/- child per month in the age group of 6-14 years were extended to 288 school going destitute children living below poverty line.

c) State Bal Bhavan

        The State Bal Bhavan at Khman Lampak which is a recreational-cum-educational center has been providing training facilities in various fields like music dance, science, home management, computer etc.

        Various workshops, camps and competitions have been organized through out the year.

        Every year, children of State Bal Bhavan are deputed to participate in the National Bal Shree Camp where the best children are selected in creative fields of arts, creative performance, science and creative writing. Till now, 7 Children of our State have received the award since 1995.

        Bal Kendras in the tribal areas of Senapati and Churachandpur Districts have been opened to benefit the children of the remote areas. Opening of theone more Bal Bhavan-cum-children part at Moreh, Border town of the Indo Mayanmar is under process.

d) Balika Samaridhi Yojana (BSY)

        A centrally sponsored scheme namely, the Balika Samridhi Yojana has been implementing in the State since 1997. A post delivery grant of Rs.500/- is provided to the mother of the girl child. Number of girl child benefited under the scheme is 3,208.

e) Pradhan Mantri Gramodaya Yojana (PMGY)

    Nutrition Component under additional Central Assistance - Supplementary Nutrition under ICDS:

        The new initiative in the form of Pradhan Mantri's Gramdaya Yojana (PMGY) had been introduced in Manipur from the year 2000-01 for eradicating malnutrition amongst under three year children by increased nutritional coverage of supplementary feeding of these children through the ICDS Scheme. A sum of Rs. 3,64.20 lakhs had been sanctioned during the year 2001-02 for procurement of 412.9 MTs of Amul Skimmed Milk Powder for distribution of AWCs.
