Methods of Cooking :-Moist heat-Boiling, Steaming, Stewing, Dry heat - Roasting, grilling and baking. Frying-shallow and deep.

Effects of Cooking - Colour , Texture, Flavour and Nutrient loss.

Classification of textile fibre, properties of cotton, linen, silk and wool, rayon, nylon, gold and silver, fibreglass. Functions of clothing, social and personal aspect. Selection of clothes in relation to complexion, body structure, season and cost.

Stages of pre-natal development, physical care of the mother, arrival of new born baby.

Care of new born baby : feeding , bathing , clothing , sleeping , toilet training and immunisation.

Habit Formation : Habit and habit formation.

Use and mechanism of some common household appliances Refrigerator, pressure cooker, thermos flask, electric iron, grinder-cum-blender.

House Planning - factors, house plan for low and middle income families.

Textiles and Clothing

Study of laundry agents and equipments, blue and stiffening agents, washing and finishing of different types of fabrics by using water as a medium, stain removal - classification , general rules , dry cleaning process.

Laundry Water-softening of hard water for laundry purpose.

Body Measurement - correct ways of taking body measurement.

Development during childhood (1-12 years): Physical Development, Social Development, Motor Development, Emotional Development and Intellectual Development.

Common childhood ailments - First-aid measures of common cold , fever , influenza, measles , diarrhoea, worm infestations, constipation, convulsions and indigestion.
