Folk Singers


                      Under Agomani Development Block, there are number of personality who has great influence over the mass-people of this area. Among this few are to be cited with details description to give a full-flavour of this site keeping in mind that it will help to create a source of inspiration to all sorts of people in the state as well as in the nation.

 

 Alauddin Sarkar

                     Born in the year 1939 at the village Agomani in the district of Dhubri (Assam), Alauddin Sarkar has passed matriculation in 1957 from Rupshi J.N. Academy and I.A. and B.A. from B.N. College, Dhubri in the year 1959 and 1961 respectively. In the year 1961, Alauddin Sarkar joined as an asstt. teacher at Agomani High School.

         Alauddin Sarkar,ex-MLA is noted lyricist of the folk-song of the area as well as folk-singer. From the period of school life he used to compose the songs and associated with Yatra and other cultural activities. He can create an emotional atmosphere among the audience during stage-programming and this is only and one reason for which he extremely popular not only in the lower part of Assam but in West Bengal also.. On his patronage ‘Maruchmathi Shilpi Samaj’, a reputed cultural organization of this area, was established at Agomani in 1972. He has succeeded to take the Goalparyia folk-song to in the state-level as well as in the national level. He has composed more than 500 which has already come in the form of book like “Udhasi Pranor Geet”, “Bhaowayiah Pt-I”, “Mor Priya Mohon Malar Pathar” and few are to be published. In addition to that he has also written lots of drama like “Manga”, “Ganghadharer Pare Pare”, “Upre Tolar Manush”, “Nalchand”, “Bhondar Biwao” etc. and lots of one-acted drama which is popular still among the people of the locality. He is also associated with IPTA (Indian People’s Theater Association) since 1974 and presently he is the Vice-President of IPTA of Assam Wings. He has performed his programme of folk-song in various places of Assam and India like Hyderabad, Patna, Delhi, Calcutta and Mumbai. He has attended in number of Stage-Programme with Padmashree Protima Pandey and also with Dr. Bhupen Hazaraika as co-singer. Sandhya Menon, the famous Assamese singer, has sung the song in New York (USA) composed by Alauddin Sarkar and earned extreme response from the folk-song lover. Government of West Bengal has honoured him awarding the “Bhawaiyah Mukut Mani” in 2001 for his excellent performance in the field of folk-song.                 

 

 

Hamida Sarkar

Hamida Sarkar, Miss Bhowaia was born in 23rd March,1978 in a very poor family at the village Sindurai Part-II in the district of Dhubri (Assam).  She passed HSLC from Agomani Higher Secondary School in 1994. She is keenly interested in the music from the childhood and she performed her first musical programme at the age of 5 at Agoamani on the occasion of Birth Anniversary   of Rasharaj Laksminath Bezbaruah in 1983. Morning shows the day. On that function all said she has potential to be a famous singer.

She has joined Maruchmati Shilpi Samaj, Agomani, a reputed cultural organization of this locality, in 1996. She attended in the 54th Asom Sahitya Shabha held at Hailakandhi in 1988 and Bilashipara in 1997. In 1990 she attends at cultural programme on the occasion of State Level Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Dibhas at District Library, Dhubri, in 1991 attends as a Guest-Artist on the birth anniversary of Late Abbachuddin Ahemd held at Balrampur (West Bengal). In the year 1997, attends at Uttar Bangla Rajya Bhowaia at Falalkata (W.B.) where she was entitled as “Miss Bhowaia”. In the year of 2000 she was invited by the Queen of Rajasthan Gayetri Devi to perform her folk-song in Jaipur (Rajasthan). She performed her melody song at the “Elephant Festival, 2003” at Kazironga.

She has sung with number of noted singer of the State for audio cassatte “Matir Manush” in the year of 1991, being the first one following “Adorer Moina”, “Ganghadarer Pare Pare”. “Man Kore Ushpash”, “Nalchand”, “Shujan Bandhu”, "Kanyadhan", "Pirit Mane Pagla Hawa" "Hriddar Agun","Dui Diner Bhalobasha"(with Padmashri Pratima Pandey),

        She also performed as a play back singer of the famous Goalparia film "Mainar Chokher Jal", and the video film " Maishaler Bashi".

 

 

Abdul Jabbar

       Noted Gowalparia and Bhaowaiah singer Bhaowaia Samrat Abdul Jabbar was born in the village Bishkhowa in the district Dhubri (Assam) in the year 1960, Abdul Jabbar,  in the field of Goalparia folk-song is a popular singer in the lower Assam as well as in the North Bengal. He was very interested in the folk-music from very childhood. Due to poverty he could not continue his study after class IXl. He has just passed Class-IX from Ratiadaha High School.

     His first programme was in the All India Radio, Nainital (Uttar Pradesh) in the year of 1980 and song for All India Radio, Guwahati in the year 1984, for the Doordharshan in the year of 1986. He has performed musical programme in the every corner of India like Guwahati, Kohima, Nainital, Karimganj, Tripura, Patharkandhi, Digboi, Uttar Prodesh, Coch-Beher. He has been entitled as the 'Bhaowayah Samrat' at the Abbas Uddin Memorial Bhaowaiah Sanmilon organized by the Govt. of West Bengal in the year of 1994.

 His first audio cassette “Kalar Bashi”, which was recorded at Cooch Beher in 1981. but it was only in 1984 he came to lime light with the cassette “Prantobashi”,. In the following years many cassetes were released. Among them “Adhorer Moina”, “Shujan Bandhu”, “Matir Manush”, “Rashiya”, “Dheura Bhauji”, “Chhoto Deura”, “Natun Shamaj”, “Urani Kaitor”, “ Jiban Dotora”, “Bhara Panir Nadhi-Brahmaputra”, “Moishaler Shanai” became hits.

 He has song with many noted artist of Assam like Dr. Bhuben Hazarika, ligendery Goalparia folk singer Late Padmashree Protima Pandey, Sandhya Menon, Hamida Sarkar, Allauddin Sarkar. He also performed with Protima Pandey Baruah several times including her last cultural programme held at Bilashipara on the occasion of RashMela. 

 Abdul Jabbar is a member of Indian Peoples' Theater Association (IPTA). He was to leave for Mauritius to perform folk-music, but due to the problem arises for SARS that programme is postponed and he will leave for that place Februay, 2004.
