The Siva Doul of Negheriting dates back to 8th-9th century AD. It is situated about one and half kms. north from the National Highway No. 36. It was constructed by the Kacharies. Later due to natural calamities it came into destruction. The present doul was constructed by Ahom king Swargadeo Rajeswar Singha in the last part of 18th century. Its ornamentation is very beautiful. It is more attractive then the  Douls at Sibsagar. There are four smaller douls in the four corners of the main doul. The main doul consists of the BAAN LINGA which is 3 feet in  diameter. The other douls consists of PANCHA DEVATA, that is, Vishnu, Surya, Ganesh and Durga. The place where the old doul was situated was known as "Sital Negheri". There is a legend that in this place a 'rishi' named Urba wanted to establish a second 'Kashi' and with this aim in view he collected lot many 'Siva Lingas' there.  BAAN LINGA was the main Linga. There was also the custom of performing songs and dances in the doul. They were called  DEONATI s.
