         NORTH LAKHIMPUR        LILABARI  AIRPORT 
HISTORY

              Airport authority of India (AAI), under its ever growing spectrum of operations, Provides Air Navigation Service over 2.8 million square nautical miles of airspace. AAI provides at 11interational and 115 domestic airports including Civil Air-terminals at Defence Air fields.

               With a total of 126 airports spread all aver the country, AAI is committed to make special efforts for the over all development of North Eastern Region. Keeping pace with the increase in traffic and up grated passengers friendly services required at Lilabari airport, AAI planned for the new terminal building for 400  passengers. The present new terminal building completed at a cost of 8.45 crore is well equipped with user friendly services. A state of art navigational and visual aids have been provided for  smooth operations of aircraft in all weather conditions.

SCENIC ASSAM

               The North Eastern Region of India comprising seven states affectionately described as 'Seven Sisters' viz, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur Tripura Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh is noted for its scenic beauty, rich historical and cultural heritage. Assam the largest and the most easily accessible of the seven states is renowned for its world famous Manas and Kaziranga National Parks. Besides, it is also one of India's largest producers of oil and tea.

LAKHIMPUR

              The very name symbolizes wealth and prosperity since it is named after Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Another legend has it that a number of rivulets irrigated this vast track of land making it fertile. So weather through history, legend or hearsay,  it is commonly emphasized that this was the place of fertility and prosperity. North Lakhimpur (Lilabari) Airport is one of the strategically placed airport in the Assam valley. This airport will also cater to the needs of Arunachal Pradesh. .

PLACES OF TOURIST INTERESTS AROUND LAKHIMPUR

                Lakhimpur is situated in Upper Assam bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Lilabari airport is a gateway to Arunachal Pradesh. There are a number of tourist sports in and around Lakhimpur district which include; eight tea gardens famous for highest tea production; Basudev than a 600 yrs. old temple situated at a distance of about 105kms. from Lilabari Airport, with about 1000 year old idol of Lord Krishna; Bilmukh bird sanctuary situated between Ghilamara and Dhakuakhana about 55kms from Lilabari Airport famous for Asia's 2nd largest dam currently under construction; Itanagar, the scenic capital of Arunachal Pradesh about 75kms. from Lilabari Airport abundant in natural scenaries and varieties of orchids; Malinithan/Likha bali at a distance of 145kms from Lilabari Airport, one can find five hundred year old temple of goddess Durga; Mazuli - reportedly the world's largest island, situated at a distance of about 30kms from Lilabari Airport, is a beautiful tourist spot; Ziro a beautiful scenic spot bordering China on one side situated at a higher altitude.
